About This Role

The department of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Associate. The purpose of this position is to provide training and research support to the Center for Outcomes Research and Epidemiology (CORE) and collaborate on the ongoing and developing research initiatives of CORE including NBAF research collaborations.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting of data sets pertaining to research related to disease modeling, animal health, veterinary medicine. Independently code disease and risk models and analyze model data from risk assessment results, disease spread and outbreak response model scenarios using cutting edge analytical and predictive techniques. Evaluate the risk and benefits of disease response and outbreak management decisions to identify optimal disease response strategies. Focus on identifying optimal solutions to management of endemic disease and foreign animal disease introduction to the United States to improve preparedness and mitigate impacts.
  • Support and lead collaborative research on several studies as they pertain to creation and management of disease modeling and risk assessment data, data collection, cleaning, and data mining, literature searches, and systematic reviews of the literature.
  • Scientific writing; scientific manuscripts for publication and reports including assisting graduate students.
  • Lead and collaborate on implementation and administration of projects, disseminate new knowledge and tools resulting from research.
  • Lead and support activities for enhancing research funding, including identifying and reviewing requests for proposals, and writing text for grants/contracts/proposals/protocols.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a master's degree and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Analytical skills, application of statistical and or decision methods to analyze disease transmission model and health/population data.
  • Skills and experience in study design, statistical analysis and interpretation of data/results.
  • Good scientific writing to contribute to reports, journal articles and/or grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills with statistical software programs.
  • Knowledge and applied expertise in both experimental and observational research design and analysis and familiarity with health and/or agricultural production systems, experience with risk assessment methods, surveillance, decision analysis tools, and disease modeling techniques.
  • DVM or equivalent and/or PhD in quantitative epidemiology, biostatistics, agricultural statistics, or related quantitative fields.
