About This Role:

The Department of Anatomy and Physiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University is seeking a pharmacology faculty member (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). This is a full-time position with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications. The position is available as (1) a research and teaching appointment (tenure-track/tenured) or (2) a primarily teaching appointment (clinical-track) and may be a 9- or 12-month position based on the applicant.

The candidate will be expected to teach pharmacology in the graduate and professional curriculums, and contribute to the service mission of the Department, College, and University. Specific teaching requirements will be tailored to the expertise of the applicant and the needs of the College but it is anticipated that the teaching appointment for this position will be a minimum of 40% for tenure-track and 70% for clinical track. Applicants with the ability to teach additional related biomedical topics, including physiology, are especially desirable.

The overall originality and promise of a candidate’s research will be prioritized rather than the candidate’s area of specialization within pharmacology or related fields for tenure-track/tenured candidates. As part of their duties, a tenure-track or tenured candidate will be expected to mentor and train graduate and professional students in an area of the candidate’s expertise and establish and maintain an independent, dynamic, extramurally-funded research program.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is home to three academic departments (Anatomy and Physiology; Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology; and Clinical Sciences). The College enrolls roughly 600 DVM and graduate students and employs more than 130 full-time faculty members engaged in teaching, research, extension, and clinical positions ( The College currently has the largest number of board-certified veterinary clinical pharmacologists of any veterinary school in the country. Pharmacology faculty in the college have expertise in comparative drug metabolism and pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics, pain management, and antimicrobial resistance. The College houses 11 different centers, institutes, and areas of excellence and supports the BSL3 Biosecurity Research Institute and the Johnson Cancer Research Center. What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: 

  • Ph.D., PharmD, DVM, or M.D. (or equivalent)
  • Potential or demonstrated ability to teach pharmacology at the university level
  • Relevant postgraduate research training (e.g. M.S., Ph.D., and/or fellowship) in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field for tenure-track

Associate Professor or Professor:

  • Ph.D., PharmD, DVM, or M.D. (or equivalent) with relevant research experience in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field
  • Evidence of effective and innovative university-level pharmacology teaching
  • For tenure: a record of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications in your focus area commensurate with tenure/rank at Kansas State University

Preferred Qualifications:

Assistant Professor:

  • Research training at the doctoral level
  • Demonstrated publications in your focus area
  • For tenure-track, demonstrated potential for sustained productivity and engagement in extramurally funded research in your focus area
  • DVM or equivalent

Associate Professor or Professor:

  • Current pharmacology teaching experience in a health professional program
  • DVM or equivalent
  • For tenure, current extramural grant support for research
