General Description of Position:

The Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University seeks to fill a fulltime, 12-month, Office Specialist II position.

Information about the College/Unit:

The Department has a reputation for excellence in all three functions of the University’s land grant mission (teaching, research, and extension).  The Department offers B.S. degrees in agricultural economics and agribusiness, an M.S. degree in agricultural economics, a Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics. Position Responsibilities:

The incumbent serves as primary receptionist for the department main phone and for visitors to the department. They will interact frequently and professionally with undergraduate students, graduate students, full-time professional staff, and faculty. They will also help with Kansas Farm Management Association with various different projects and tasks.

This individual is expected to work independently and is given significant amount of latitude to make decisions, assign priorities and make sure all guidelines are followed to accomplish stated goals while meeting deadlines with little supervision.

This position assists daily with department maintenance, serves as primary contact for department maintenance issues. The position schedules and coordinates use of departmental meeting rooms and classroom space.

Ensures smooth day-to-day operations and support for the department and Program Administrator.

Plans special events: Meetings, retirements, receptions, socials, etc.  This may involve negotiating appropriate contracts within the pre-determined budget.

Provide support for KFMA Executive Director and KFMA Associate Director for administrative activities of the Kansas Farm Management Association program.  This includes personnel items (out-of-state trip requests and travel vouchers, position announcements, related items), communication with association economists and support staff, ordering and/or distribution of reports and materials, maintaining mailing and listserv lists, help with event planning and other items as needed.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year relevant experience.
  • Exhibit well developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Edit and create Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$19.23 - $21.81 hourly
