About This Role:

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for an Operations Administrator to the Department Head, to support major executive functions to include faculty searches, startup packages, evaluations, promotion and tenure, and other critical services.  Compose and create correspondence/documents for Department Head and provide administrative support; oversee department communications and public relations activities; organize and manage department events; and special projects for Head.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant experience.  May use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year relevant experience such as providing administrative/programmatic support, coordination for an administrator, scheduling/calendar management, support for events, meetings, speaking engagements or special projects, preparation of documents for signature, and communication support.
  • May also include problem solving and analytical responsibilities.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Advanced degree in any discipline, particularly business management and/or communications is highly preferred.
  • Three or more years related administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to research and analyze administrative problems, make recommendations, and take appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team with accountability for results.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and pay attention to accuracy, detail and follow through.
  • Demonstrate customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude.
  • Proven ability to be inclusive and interact effectively in a diverse comma multicultural environment with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, innovative and receptive to taking on new or changing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, tapped, and discretion and maintain integrity with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including composition and editing.
  • Experience with writing news releases or other articles or preparation or drafting of newsletters.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of an ability to learn university policies and procedures.
  • High proficiency with technology, including skills with Microsoft Office suite (specifically word, excel, online calendaring, scheduling).
  • Ability to utilize KSU computer programs, KSI S, HRIS, CONCUR, and Canvas.
  • Have supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and make difficult decisions.
  • Event planning experience.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$22.83 - $35.38

*Please note:  the minimum salary for this position is $22.83.  Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding.  Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.  The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
