About This Role:

The Anesthesia and Analgesia Residency Program at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine (KSU-CVM) is fully approved and accredited by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. We accept 1-2 residents annually in a comprehensive three-year training program.

Throughout this program, residents learn to safely manage patients across species with a variety of conditions, become comfortable in managing a single anesthetized patient and a floor of patients while interacting with other board-certified veterinarians, residents and interns, anesthesia nursing staff, and fourth year students. Our goal is for residents to become technically proficient and develop professionally to function as an anesthesiology consultant. Residents will develop a strong foundation in normal and abnormal comparative physiology of all major body systems, pharmacology, and become competent in understanding the function and troubleshooting of anesthetic equipment. Our program aims to teach relevant approaches and up-to-date techniques to include each resident completing a formal mentored training program to become competent in the use of an ultrasound machine and perform ultrasound-guided regional anesthetic techniques on both large and small animal species. As residents progress through this program, their role will change as they develop more skills and experience. Residents will also become well versed in the fundamental management strategies and approaches to both acute and chronic pain issues across species.
