Kansas Forest Service is hiring a full-time District Community Forester position for the southeast district of the Community Forestry Program. The position supports the Community Forestry Program by assisting communities in planning, managing, education/outreach and developing tree resources to improve environmental, economic, ecological, social, beautification and recreational benefits. Responsibilities include: • Providing community forestry technical assistance to communities and partners of the southeast district. • Planning, developing, and conducting a balanced full-service forestry program to meet the needs of the resource and communities in a positive and professional manner. • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with federal, state and local agencies, and organizations on forestry related programs. Incumbent delivers community forestry services with limited direct supervision. Approximately 50% of the time will be spent in the field, travel is routine with occasional overnight travel for special duties and training. Work may need to be done in inclement weather on occasion. This position is located within the Southeast Community Forestry District in Haysville, KS.
Assistant Forester (District Fire Management Officer) Other Hybrid eligible (partially remote, must reside in US)
Kansas Forest Service is hiring two full-time positions as District Fire Management Officers within the KFS Fire Program. These positions help the Fire Program to meet the needs of fire departments and communities we serve by being the direct contact for the program to the fire departments and related organizations within their assigned district. They will help provide training, direct incident support, and have the opportunity to more effectively pursue relations with those we serve. The location for these positions is flexible within the NW, SW, and SE district and they are eligible to work remote in a hybrid/partial capacity.

This Post-Doctoral position for independent research including but not limited to viruses such as Influenza, African swine fever, Vesicular Stomatitis, Rift Valley Fever, Monkey Pox and other select agents under both BSL-2 and BSL-3 bio-containment conditions. Duties would include planning and conducting experiments; writing and editing manuscripts/articles; establishing procedures and techniques; and provide educational guidance to students. This position is part of a very busy, successful research team whose main goal is to develop rationally designed vaccines and diagnostics against high-consequence foreign animal, emerging and zoonotic disease threats. The position requires the individual to display critical thinking and independent judgement as it relates to ongoing and new molecular, viral research with direct guidance from the Research Science Manager and Primary Investigator. The research is conducted at the BSL2 and BSL3 level of containment and utilizes several select target animal models such as pigs, cows, chickens and mice. The position requires the acquisition and maintenance of a DOJ Select Agent clearance.

Research Associate Manhattan, Kansas On-site requirement
The Research Associate will be involved in conducting ongoing research in identification of protective African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV) antigens, formulation of prototype vaccines, and conducting immunogenicity and efficacy studies in pigs. Additional area of research will involve testing efficacy and cross-protective capabilities of novel Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) mosaic antigens in cattle and testing prototype Bovine Parainfluenza Virus-vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in rodent models. Some efforts will also be directed at on-going studies focused on identification of Bovine Ultra-Long antibodies against several target antigens of interest for development of peptide-based therapeutic drugs, adjuvant development, and optimization of Lateral Flow diagnostic tools and EliSpot readouts of interest for which there are no commercial products in the market. The on-going research projects on ASFV and BVDV will utilize multiple live vector platforms, and studies will be conducted in commercial swine and cattle at BSL2/3 levels.
