About This Role:     

The Salina Upward Bound Program is seeking full-time, temporary Instructors for the K-State Manhattan Campus. This position is responsible for developing and teaching summer curriculum to the TRIO Upward Bound (UB) participants. The Upward Bound Summer Program classes will be held June 11 - June 28, 2024.

The instructor reports to the Director and works closely with the Academic Services Coordinator. Instructors will develop a curriculum based on designated subject they are hired to teach (English; Science; Financial Literature; Math; Engineering and Technology; Foreign Language during the summer program for income-limited and/or first-generation college-bound students). Instructor must be versatile in designing regular curriculum along with designing a project-based curriculum.

Teach 3-4 classes Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for three weeks.

Attend weekly faculty meeting and 1-day training, June 8, 2024.

Upward Bound is a campus-based TRIO program designed to assist area high school students with additional academic preparation, advisement, and encouragement to succeed in high school and later in college.

The Upward Bound Program participants are involved in the program from the time they are selected for participation until they graduate from high school. The program offers a four-week summer program, which consists of residential and non-residential components and Saturday sessions during the academic year. Students must meet family income guidelines and/or be first-generation college bound.

There is no cost for participation in the program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • College, secondary or elementary teacher certification 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the subject matter being taught: (English; Science; Financial Literature; Math; Engineering and Technology; Foreign Language during the summer program for income-limited and/or first-generation college-bound students).
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating course content clearly and creatively.
  • Experience in developing course design, content, and selections of materials.
  • Experience in developing specific curricula -- incorporating skills and applications for specific classes -- for effective learning.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be versatile in designing regular curriculum along with designing a project-based curriculum.
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and understanding Federal guidelines related to TRIO programs. Comprehensive knowledge of grammar and English usage.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must attend the 1-day training on June 8, 2024
  • CPR and First Aid Training, provided as on provided as on the job training, unless you have current certification.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$1,200 bi-weekly, $1,800 program total
