About This Role:

Kansas State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for an energetic, creative, and committed individual to serve in the position of Electronic Resources Librarian with a focus on serving as a team lead for electronic resources acquisitions and content management for Hale Library and the three specialized branches. This position reports to the head of Metadata, Preservation, and Acquisitions.

Following the May 22, 2018, fire in Hale Library, the university’s main library, the administration, faculty and staff, who had been looking forward to the creation of a first-floor learning commons, will instead reimagine the institution from the ground up. Central to the future of Hale Library is a continued and expanded strong electronic resources presence that maximizes the content for students, faculty, and staff.

This is a full-time tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities.  The candidate must have a commitment to scholarly/creative activities and professional service necessary for pursuing tenure at Kansas State University Libraries.  To be successful in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in an environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential.  The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing excellent user service and support.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage access to electronic resources, including databases, electronic journals, and various streaming media
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate electronic resources and acquisitions staff including 3 FTE (2 Support Staff, 1 Acquisitions Librarian)
  • Works closely with technical services and content development librarians and staff to ensure accurate metadata and holdings information within Alma platform and timely access to resources
  • Develop, implement, refine, and document electronic resources workflows for maximum impact
  • Serve as a liaison with vendors and publishers, including monitoring expenditures and evaluating vendor performance
  • Troubleshoot access to electronic resources using ticketing system
  • Monitor electronic resources usage by collecting, reporting, and analyzing data to inform collection decisions
  • Assist in complex copy and original cataloging of continuations in all formats and languages
  • Direct and assist in database maintenance activities directly related to electronic resources and other print continuations

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing electronic resources in an academic library
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic resources management in all stages of the lifecycle including acquisitions, evaluation, implementation, and support
  • Experience with unified resource management systems or other integrated library system(s)
  • Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, creative and innovative attitude
  • Evidence of strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in supporting a diverse workforce and serving the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful supervisory experience
  • Experience supporting Ex Libris products Alma and Primo
  • Experience with vendor integrations, including but not limited to electronic data interchange
  • Knowledge of various electronic resource management standards and tools such as but not limited to COUNTER, KBART, ONIX, OpenURL, SERU, SUSHI
  • Experience applying metadata standards and schema including but not limited to RDA, LCSH, LCC, MARC
