About This Role:

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a LEARNING SPECIALIST, which is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of student-athletes. This includes one-on-one tutoring and skill building, evaluating, and monitoring academic plans for students, assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills and self-awareness, providing appropriate referrals to the Student Access Center.
  • Provide interpretation and help determine need for psychoeducational testing and/or ADHD testing through intake interview, evaluation of previous testing records, information gathering such as working with student one-on-one, and/or obtaining feedback from counselors, coaches, sports psych and/or team physicians. Interpret all forms of disability documentation and communicate that information to other parties. Schedule all testing appointments and complete all paperwork for testing including referral forms, payments, and requests to release information.
  • Provide leadership and assistance with the Specialized Learning & Tutorial program. Assist in development of appropriate study strategies/individualized learning strategies.
  • Act as the liaison to Student Access Center; coordinate mandated SAC services for specified student-athletes, including clarifying and instructing use of needed support services and accommodations; and development of appropriate study strategies/individualized learning strategies. Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in special education, educational psychology, academic advising, college student development, curriculum/instruction, or closely related field.
  • Two years working as a learning specialist and/or in closely related position such as a Graduate Assistant/Intern with time spent learning specialist program, or in a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Knowledge of diagnostic placement testing/learning assessments and interpretation of disability documentation.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, and experience working with NCAA student-athletes with documented learning disabilities; experience working in secondary or post-secondary education as a teacher or paraprofessional.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, computer proficiency and excellent organizational skills.
  • Some evenings and weekends are required.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate:

$40,000 to $45,000 annual salary
