About This Role:

Facilities Custodial Services is searching for a dynamic leader to fill the position of Facilities Custodial Supervisor. This position mentors’ staff and manages the workflow and needs of a custodial team in an assigned area of campus. You will be responsible for providing a clean and healthy environment for faculty, staff, and students by utilizing your knowledge of proper custodial procedures and effectively communicating them to others. This individual will also contribute to the development, implementation, and coordination of training programs for custodial specialists.

Duties will include:

  • Develop and write schedules for frequency, quality, and quantity of custodial tasks to ensure the proper performance of custodial work.
  • Exhibit leadership to faculty, staff, students, visitors, coworkers, and employees by projecting a professional image.
  • Provide an environment which promotes harmonious relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Contribute to the development and training progress of Custodial Specialists
  • Screen and interview prospective employees to fill empty positions.
  • Inspect and document work in progress to achieve established    standards of cleanliness.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma and one year of relevant experience. 
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of custodial experience in building, industrial, or institutional custodial work.
  • Prefer 18 months experience being in a supervisory capacity and experience in scheduling and assigning subordinates.
  • Prefer knowledge of principles of inventory control and of the principles and techniques of supervision. 
  • Prefer ability to organize and clearly express information in concise written form; assign and supervise the work of subordinates and to train and instruct employees in cleaning and other housekeeping duties; and to maintain and organize filing and record keeping systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Prefer 18 months experience being in a supervisory capacity and experience in scheduling and assigning subordinates.
  • Prefer knowledge of principles of inventory control and of the principles and techniques of supervision.
  • Prefer ability to organize and clearly express information in concise written form; assign and supervise the work of subordinates and to train and instruct employees in cleaning and other housekeeping duties; and to maintain and organize filing and record keeping systems.
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
  • Completion of KSU Introduction to Supervision training within the probationary period required.
  • Work requires moderate physical exertion to complete custodial tasks including transporting items weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a repetitive basis, daily.
  • Must be able to work in varying climatic conditions and work with a variety of cleaning chemicals.
  • Daily:  Computer, Telephone, Two-way radio.
  • Weekly:  State Vehicle, Sweepers, Vacuums, Scrubbers, Buffers, Carpet Cleaner.
  • Subject to on-call, standby and inclement weather response.  This position is considered essential.
  • Responsible to know, understand, and follow safety guidelines in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, to include K-State and Facilities policies and procedures. 
  • Responsible to comply with the safe work practices identified in the departmental Job Hazard Analysis, Personal Protective Equipment Assessment and Departmental Safety Orientation Acknowledgment form.
  • Responsible for the implementation of safety regulations, guidelines and work practices to prevent injury to yourself and other.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$16.04 - $20.04 hour plus .40 per hour shift differential for qualifying work shifts
