K-State Olathe is hiring a Fellow Post Doc to help design and engineer a novel deep learning technology that will use visual, audio, and other sensory data to track the behaviors of pigs in a pen continuously and in test arenas that are used to measure cognition and dominance. In light of this technology, the Fellow Post Doc will be requested to perform a comparative analysis from at an adaptive resolution rate based on multiple cameras installed in the pens and arenas designed by Dr. Hulbert for the Sorghum Project. Sorghum fermented products and genome data will be used to mitigate stress, inflammatory, and behavioral responses in adult pigs using computer vision system that must have restricted feed intake to maintain a healthy body weight or reduce weight after becoming overweight. This position is full-time, exempt (salaried), term position.

Animal Technician II Manhattan, Kansas On-site requirement
This is a relief emergency milking position. Duties include setting up milking equipment, carefully moving cows to and from the milking parlor, prepping cows properly for milking (predippping and cleaning of teats), diagnosing abnormal milk (if mastitis exists then proper milking and disposal of milk must occur), attaching milking machines, and post-dipping teats after milking. The employee sanitizes the equipment before and after each milking shift. In addition, the employee coducts regular inspection of the milk tank compressors, milk line and pump to ensure bulk storage tanks are operating correcting and cooling milk before, during, and after each milking shift. Other miscellaneous animal care duties may be assigned during the milking shift.

Responsibilities include leading a breeding program to develop and release new sorghum germplasm, parent lines, and hybrids. Areas of innovation could include germplasm characterization, application of functional genomics, statistical genetics, and applied molecular breeding approaches to sorghum breeding. Specific research targets may include abiotic and biotic constraints to production and pursuit of improvement for productivity and profitability. The presence of a large and diverse community of sorghum researchers with the KSU Center for Sorghum Improvement and USDA-CGAHR provides ample opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration. The incumbent is expected to develop an externally funded research program including the training of graduate students, peer-reviewed publication of research results, and promoting collegiality within the KSU and broader communities. Responsibilities include teaching courses in plant breeding/genetics, and the development of commercially relevant improvements in sorghum through public-private collaborations.
