About This Role:

The Exploratory Academic Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting students in their academic and career exploration journey. This position involves working closely with a diverse population of students, including first generation, low-income and/or racially minoritized students, who have not declared an academic major or are in the process of exploring new or different academic pathways.  The advisor assists students in identifying their interests, strengths, and goals, and provides guidance on appropriate majors and career options.

This position reports to the director of pre-professional and exploratory advising within the Academic and Career Engagement unit.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, student affairs, academic advising, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in higher education, academic advising, student services, or career counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of academic programs, university policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be detail oriented, and prioritize.
  • Proficient in using student success technologies and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work in diverse and changing environments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong personal computer skills
  • Familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems.

Other Requirements:

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$41,388.00 -- $52,764.00 annually ($1,591.847 - $2,029.385 bi-weekly)
