About This Role:

The Department of Social Transformation Studies at Kansas State University invites applications for a 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor in American Ethnic Studies with a preferred specialization in Asian American Studies beginning August 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching six courses over the course of the academic year, including the introductory course, AMETH 160: Introduction to American Ethnic Studies, AMETH 354: Asian American Perspectives (which can be tailored to the faculty member’s interests and expertise), as well as the possibility of other upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise; and contributing to departmental service.

The Department of Social Transformation Studies was formed in 2022 by the merger of the departments of American Ethnic Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. We offer an undergraduate major in Social Transformation Studies with tracks in AMETH and GWSS, along with minors in AMETH, GWSS, and Queer Studies, an undergraduate certificate in Intercultural Competence, and a graduate certificate in GWSS.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced graduate training in Ethnic Studies or another relevant discipline with a specific focus in Ethnic Studies. ABDs will be considered.
  • Relevant teaching experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in hand by start of appointment
  • Teaching or research expertise in Asian American Studies, or Comparative Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in Asian American Studies

 

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
