About This Role:

The Physician Assistant (PA) Program, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a Clinical Director to join their team. This position is responsible for planning the clinical year, including the scheduling of all clinical rotations, lectures, OSCEs, laboratory exercises, and case study/critical thinking sessions. The position also assists in the student training of BLS/ACLS/PALS certification sessions and clinical skills testing sessions. Additionally, the Clinical Director will participate in the organization, administration, planning, and evaluation of the PA Program. The Clinical Director will serve as the supervisor of the clinical instructional faculty and the clinical coordinator. This position reports to the PA Program Director.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Obtain, secure, and maintain clinical affiliations
  • Complete initial and ongoing clinical preceptor, clinical site, clinical courses, and program evaluations, providing detailed analysis and reports for ongoing clinical phase and program evaluation, assessment, and improvement
  • Serve as liaison between clinical facilities/preceptors and PA program
  • Oversee implementation of curricular design and coordinate the schedule of the clinical phase of curriculum to optimize the delivery of instructional content to students
  • Maintain the current curricular map showing the vertical and horizontal sequence of the curriculum in the clinical phase
  • Ensure clinical instructional faculty (preceptors) are appropriately oriented to program mission and goals, program policies, specific teaching responsibilities, program instructional resources, and specific learning objectives for which they are responsible
  • Maintain student files of academic performance during the clinical year, such as major exams per rotation, correspondence regarding clinical rotation progress, or any other clinically related activity
  • Oversee updates and revisions for clinical and preceptor handbooks
  • Participate in clinical skills training, lab sessions, and simulations as assigned
  • Provide student instruction, evaluate student performance, and ensure the availability of remedial instruction in assigned courses in the PA program
  • Participate in clinical assignments, including proctoring physical exam checkoffs, case studies, and problem-oriented physicals
  • Evaluate clinical curriculum against national standards and PA practice on an annual basis in preparation for Faculty Retreat
  • Oversee policies and procedures for evaluation of student performance, academic counseling, and remediation in the clinical phase
  • Work with the didactic team to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum in preparing students for clinical rotations and entry-level practice
  • Travel as needed to recruit and maintain clinical sites and preceptor base
  • Participate in the screening, interviewing, and selection of applicants for the PA Program
  • Assist with preparation for ARC-PA accreditation and re-accreditation site visits, specifically collecting and analyzing data related to the clinical phase and SSR.

This 12-month, non-tenure track position at the rank of clinical assistant professor has a preferred starting date of Summer/Fall 2024, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Physician Assistant with the following:
    • Master’s degree or higher,
    • Current NCCPA certification,
    • Current Kansas Physician Assistant license or eligibility for Kansas licensure, and
    • Five years of clinical experience
    • At least one year of higher education teaching experience, or equivalent teaching experience; OR
  • Physician with the following:
    • M.D. or D.O.,
    • Current Kansas Physician license or eligibility for Kansas licensure, and
    • Five years of clinical practice experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administration experience in an education setting, preferably PA or medical education
  • ARC-PA accreditation experience
  • Earned doctoral degree in relevant discipline
  • Experience teaching in PA/medical education
  • Two or more years’ leadership experience with medical providers, including military equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent English-language written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of PA program planning, development, and fiscal management
  • Demonstrated instructional and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to interface with students, faculty, staff and community members with tact and clarity
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours and on weekends, as needed
