About This Role

The College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) is seeking an Assistant Director of Academic Advising to join their team. This position is responsible for overseeing the college’s academic advisors, advising and assisting schools and programs with curriculum development and change issues, serving as a point of contact for students with academic and other crises, and counseling and advising students and parents. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Student Success.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate with college and school leadership in discussions about course substitutions, recommending and/or approving course content equivalency
  • Supervise advising staff and oversee compliance with university and college policies, procedures, and deadlines
  • Assist the Associate Dean with coordinating the college and school scholarship awarding processes
  • Advise students on academic warnings and provide support to and participate in reinstatement committee hearings dealing with appeals of dismissed students
  • Coordinate and oversee the updating of course schedules for each term
  • Work with the point of contact for each school to ensure deadlines are met and questions are answered regarding course schedules, modalities, etc.
  • Represent the Dean’s Office on college and university committees and efforts, including but not limited to the University Advising Committee and transfer pathways
  • Coordinate logistics of new student enrollment and orientation periods and participate in all aspects of these sessions
  • Contribute in a supporting role to college recruiters' activities to shape the entry experience of new students
  • Serve as backup for recruitment events if college recruiters and the Associate Dean are not available

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three to five years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in academic advising, higher education administration, or related field
  • Five years of advising experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
