About This Role

The College of Agriculture seeks a Budget/Fiscal Coordinator to assist in the direction of operational, personnel, fiscal, and managerial activities within assigned departments, offices, or research units in the College of Agriculture. This position provides coordination and oversight of financial operations and/or human resource management functions to ensure compliance with university, state, federal, and sponsor regulations.

Duties/responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee daily fiscal operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll review, and budget monitoring.
  • Monitor state, restricted, grant, foundation, and fee-funded accounts to ensure expenditures remain within approved limits.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets, projections, and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to department leadership regarding budget adjustments and resource allocation.
  • Ensure expenditures comply with university, state, federal, and sponsor guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate documentation to ensure audit readiness.
  • Assist department leadership in coordinating operational and managerial activities.
  • Develop and implement internal procedures to improve efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Serve as a liaison with central administrative offices (e.g., Division of Financial Services, Human Capital Services).
  • Coordinate purchasing, contracts, and service agreements in accordance with university policies.
  • Support strategic planning efforts related to fiscal and operational needs.
  • Coordinate personnel-related fiscal activities, including salary projections, funding allocations, and payroll monitoring.
  • Assist with review and processing of personnel transactions to ensure accurate funding and compliance.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and staff regarding HR-related procedures and funding implications.
  • Support onboarding, position funding changes, and budget reallocations related to personnel.
  • Serve as delegated purchasing authority, as applicable.
  • Review and approve expenditures for appropriate funding sources and object codes.
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports.
  • Coordinate responses to audit inquiries and ensure timely correction of discrepancies.
  • Maintain inventory records and assist with asset tracking, if applicable.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and five years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education fiscal or business administration.
  • Experience managing multiple funding sources (state, restricted, grant, foundation).
  • Knowledge of university financial and HR systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Supervisory or lead-worker experience.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
