About This Role

The College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) at Kansas State University is looking to hire a Copywriter to join their team. This position will work to advance and promote the college through writing news and feature stories for internal and external audiences. This position reports to the Public Information Officer.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to storytelling of HHS through a variety of channels, including press releases, feature stories, e-newsletters, magazine articles, and special projects
  • Identify and pitch ideas for stories that support the implementation of strategic communication plans for HHS
  • Research and write approved stories (i.e., student and faculty spotlights, faculty research, service efforts, college initiatives, etc.)
  • Provide editorial assistance on communications, reports, websites, etc.

This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position. The selected candidate will be expected to work approximately 20 hours per week.

Worksite Description

This position is hybrid eligible. The hybrid work agreement for this position may include up to four hours of remote work per week (20% remote, 80% on-site). Remote work is granted at the discretion of the direct supervisor. Additional details about potential hybrid work in this role may be discussed during interviews.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Four years of relevant experience
    • Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
  • Two years of experience writing stories for both internal and external audiences
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with AP style and formatting

Sponsorship eligibility:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
