About This Role

Housing and Dining Services offers a unique and exciting opportunity for full time employment (with great benefits) as a Cook with Union Station by JP's, an on-campus full-service restaurant.


This position offers the opportunity to prepare quality food in a cohesive team environment dedicated to providing and supporting a “guest first” service culture and to demonstrate work habits that support a goal oriented team environment.
Duties include:
• Prepare and serve high quality food using made-to-order cooking methods appropriate for a restaurant environment.
• Coordinate food production and service functions.
• Taste and evaluate products.
• Assign production tasks and provide on the job instruction and training to hourly student employees. Monitor compliance to quality standards.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance/sanitation activities.
• Attend scheduled job training sessions; participate in regularly scheduled meetings and prepare daily production sheets.
• Effectively use resources and suggest improvements to operations.
• Cultivate and maintain harmonious work relationships. Enjoy working with a great team in an inviting environment!

Worksite Description

The duties of this position are performed on-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in commercial/institutional cooking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school graduation/GED
  • 1-3 three years cooking experience in a restaurant setting
  • Considerable knowledge of “from scratch” batch food preparation
  • Familiarity with commercial food service equipment and health, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • Experience providing leadership/guidance to student staff
  • Ability to develop and maintain congenial work relationships with other staff and customers
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to learn to perform basic math computations; to accurately weigh and measure ingredients
  • Ability to present prepared food attractively

Preferred licenses / registrations / certifications:

  • Completion of food safety training within 6 months of employment

Additional Role Information:

  • This position frequently requires week-end and occasional holiday work.

$16.00-$17.75 per hour. Some shifts may qualify for $.60 per hour shift differential.
