The Head of Museum Education and Outreach—under the direct supervision of the museum director—is responsible for shaping and leading the museum’s educational initiatives, ensuring that its programs remain dynamic and relevant to a wide range of audiences. This role is central to fostering meaningful connections between the museum’s exhibitions, collections, and the public, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and cultural exploration. With a deep commitment to accessibility and innovation, the Head of Museum Education and Outreach develops programs that engage K-State students and faculty, K-12 students and educators, families, and community organizations, reinforcing the museum’s role as a vital educational resource.

This position requires a leader who can think creatively about how to make art, history, and culture resonate with all audiences. The Head of Museum Education and Outreach will design and implement educational experiences that support formal and informal learning, ensuring that schools have access to curriculum-aligned resources and that visitors of all ages can participate in enriching, interactive experiences. By building strong relationships with educators, community leaders, and cultural partners, this role ensures that the museum remains responsive to the needs and interests of the community it serves.

Beyond developing and delivering programming, the position also involves managing and training a team of educators, student Gallery Attendants, and volunteers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to provide engaging tours and interactive learning experiences.

This role is responsible for assessing the impact of educational initiatives, using data and audience feedback to refine and enhance offerings. This position requires someone who can advocate for the importance of museum education, working closely with leadership to secure funding through grants, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.

The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University is a cultural hub showcasing regional art while connecting to global perspectives. Established in 1996, the museum houses over 12,000 works and offers unique exhibitions, educational programs, and community collaborations. Its mission is to foster creativity, learning, and engagement through visual arts. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the museum upholds high conservation standards and supports research in art from Kansas and the region. Free admission ensures accessibility for all visitors. Through dynamic exhibitions and programs, the Beach Museum enriches the university and broader community, celebrating the power of art to inspire and connect people across generations.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager. Educational equivalency means that education and experience may be combined to fulfill the minimum qualifications. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in program development, team management, and public engagement.
  • Experience in Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of educational pedagogy, learning styles, and cultural competency.
  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising for educational initiatives is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for educational programming is desirable.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
