About This Role

The Painter II works as part of a team to provide safe, well maintained, and appealing living and learning spaces. This role supports the delivery of high-quality finishes and renovations across a variety of facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Determines appropriate tools, equipment (colorant machine, paint shaker) and colorants and prepares paint for application.
• Performs interior and exterior prep work and application of paint
• Prepares and finishes drywall and plaster for application of finishing materials.
• Prepares surfaces including furniture, metal, wood, masonry and/or drywall for priming and spray painting. Applies primer and various custom finishes (poly mix, enamels, clear coats, etc.) using airless, conventional or HVLP spray equipment.
• Installs cabinets, back splashes, medicine cabinets, shower tub surrounds, and other fixtures.
• Prepares surfaces for and repairs masonry surfaces, ceramic and quarry tile. Applies epoxy floors.
• Plans and schedules spray finish activities.
• Cleans, repairs and properly stores tools and equipment to ensure security, safety, and easy access. Uses electronic work order system to acquire work requests and maintain records of work performed.
• May be assigned other duties including replacing and installing glass; serving as lead worker; assisting with project planning and material estimates.

Worksite Description

The duties of this position must be performed on-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience.
  • Valid drivers license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of experience at the journeyman level of painting
  • High school graduate/GED
  • Knowledge of painting trade techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in the trade and the ability to apply knowledge in practical applications
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to interpret project from sketches, prints, and specifications
  • Ability to train coordinate, schedule, estimate labor and material, and keep accurate records

Additional Role Information:

  • Valid drivers license upon employment
  • Certificates of pulmonary function test and physical examination is required for spray painting, asbestos removal and/or lead paint interim control/abatement within six months of employment and annually thereafter.
