About This Role

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a SENIOR LEARNING SPECIALIST, which is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to: 

  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of student-athletes. This includes one-on-one tutoring and skill building, evaluating, and monitoring academic plans for students, assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills and self-awareness, providing appropriate referrals to the Student Access Center.
  • Responsible for training tutors and academic mentors as it relates to study skills implementation and educational impacting disorders, including Supervised Study Program.
  • Provide leadership and assistance with the Specialized Learning & Tutorial program. Assist in development of appropriate study strategies/individualized learning strategies.
  • Act as the liaison to Student Access Center; coordinate mandated SAC services for specified student-athletes, including clarifying and instructing use of needed support services and accommodations; and development of appropriate study strategies/individualized learning strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in special education, educational psychology, academic advising, college student development, curriculum/instruction, or closely related field
  • Two years working full-time as a learning specialist or in a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic placement testing/learning assessments and interpretation of disability documentation
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, and experience working with NCAA student-athletes with documented learning disabilities
  • Experience working in secondary or post-secondary education as a teacher or paraprofessional
  • Supervisory experience of student or postgraduate intern staff

  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and computer proficiency
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Some evening and weekend hours required

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

$42,000 to $48,000
