The Extension Nutrition Program, within K‑State Research and Extension, is currently seeking a part-time Nutrition Educator. Nutrition educators support the Kansas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP‑Ed) mission of empowering limited-resource Kansans to achieve healthy lives and reduce health disparities.
Nutrition educators will use evidence-based strategies, including:
Teaching
Community outreach and policy, system, and environmental (PSE) work
Reporting
Professional development
This position reports to the Tribal Food Systems Coordinator. This appointment is a temporary position and is contingent upon the continuing availability of funding and the need for these services.
This is a part-time position that is not benefits eligible. The selected candidate will be expected to work an average of 18 hours per week.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP‑Ed) is a nutrition education program provided at no cost to Kansas families with limited resources. Our goal is to provide nutrition education to individuals and families who receive food assistance or who are eligible to receive food assistance. In addition, we promote, implement and support initiatives for Policy, System and Environmental changes to improve dietary quality, prevent obesity and increase physical activity. SNAP‑Ed is sponsored by the USDA through a contract with the Kansas Department for Children and Families and implemented by K‑State Research and Extension. The Kansas Tribal Food Systems program is a coalition of health-conscious tribal members and other specialized groups working to improve nutrition and access to healthy foods for Native American tribes in Kansas. The project is overseen by the Kansas Alliance for Tribal Community Health (KATCH), which is comprised of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska; the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas; Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation; and the Sac & Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska.
The partnership between K-State Research and Extension, Kansas SNAP-Ed, and the Kansas Tribal Food System program provides community-relevant nutrition education, as well as support for policy, systems and environmental changes to promote health and food access for Native American tribes in Kansas.
This position will serve communities members of Native American tribes in Kansas. The program’s primary office is in Holton, KS.
This position is remote, but will require regular travel to various sites within the Tribal Food Systems network. It will also involve overnight travel for trainings (approximately 2-3 times per year).
