About This Role:

Housing and Dining Services (HDS) offers an opportunity for a skilled individual to upholster, reupholster and repair furniture.  Your skills can enhance the safety and aesthetics of living and learning spaces in residence halls, dining centers, offices, and retail venues.  If you take pride in your work, are conscientious, and have a commitment to quality and customer service, you may be a fit for the HDS team.

Duties include:

  • Dismantle, repair, and reupholster furniture.
  • Repair furniture frames and bases.
  • Refinish furniture.
  • Build new furniture and built-in furnishings. 
  • Maintain records of work performed. 
  • Estimate materials. Order, stock and inventory supplies.
  • Assist with carpentry tasks as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skilled level experience in upholstery and carpentry.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, and materials used in both trades.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Prefer strong attention to detail.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring moderate-considerable physical exertion.  Standing, reaching, repetitive motion and lifting are required.
