About This Role:

The Fitness and Wellness Associate will assist in the development of a comprehensive recreational sports program for a diverse campus community. They will be responsible for coordinating the fitness related programs and events for the department under the management of the Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness. This position will manage day-to-day operations of the group fitness and group training programs, and assist with the recruitment, training and management of personal trainers as well as client management. They will assist in the administration of wellness programming and fitness and wellness related special events.

This position will assist with the administration of all programs conducted by the department including budgeting, personnel and administration of rules and policies, long range planning and evaluation. This person will be accountable for the continued growth and improvement of the fitness program. They will provide a collaborative, team oriented approach to the overall management process of Recreational Services. The development and continued improvement of current fitness and wellness services, as well as staff training will be a standard expectation of this person.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Group Fitness – Recruit, hire, train, and schedule group fitness leaders, as well as develop Group Fitness Program and schedule
  • Group Training – Recruit, hire, train, and schedule group training coaches, along with development of the Group Training program in the new Performance Zone area
  • Personal Training – Assist with administration of Personal Training Program
  • Wellness – Assist with campus and department wellness programming and events

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires high school diploma and two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition and Wellness, Exercise Science, Recreation Management or a Related Field
  • One or more years of supervisory experience in fitness, group exercise and personal training programming and management
  • Previous experience as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer with ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA or other nationally recognized organization 
  • Leadership and supervisory skills to hire, train, motivate, supervise and evaluate employees as demonstrated through past supervision of staff
  • Demonstrate experience in personnel management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing

Other Requirements:

  • Current certifications with American Red Cross
  • AED/CPR/First Aid Instructor Level certification
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$15.67 - $24.29 per hour ($32,599-$50,528 annual salary)

Please note: The minimum rate for this position is $15.67. Actual salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, internal equity and departmental funding. Salary offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range. The range indicated includes both the typical hiring range and potential future progression.
