About This Role:

The J.R. Macdonald Laboratory, Department of Physics, Kansas State University, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW in ultrafast AMO physics. The position is part of a recently awarded grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to study ultrafast electronic and nuclear dynamics in molecules using novel short-pulse X-ray sources such as X-ray free-electron lasers:

Some of the responsibilities and research projects include:

  • Development of a setup for generating short-pulse ultraviolet radiation with an 800-nm femtosecond drive laser.
  • Prepare and conduct experiments at X-ray free-electron laser facilities in Stanford, CA, and Hamburg, Germany.
  • Employ the above capabilities to study ultrafast electronic and nuclear dynamics in atoms and molecules.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Physics, Physical Chemistry or a related field by the time position begin

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics with experience in one or more of the following areas:  femtosecond laser systems; strong-field physics and ultrafast laser-matter interactions with X-ray free-electron lasers or synchrotron radiation, pump-probe ion and/or electron spectroscopy.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
