About This Role:

Join the Facilities Ground Maintenance team as a Landscape Technician II. You will participate in planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, weed whipping, mowing, pulling and hoeing weeds, raking leaves, picking up trash and debris, cleaning sidewalks, mulching, and snow removal by operating various tools and equipment of the trade.  Perform plumbing and electrical duties to operate, maintain, repair, and install irrigation systems on campus grounds. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. 

The role of the Grounds Maintenance and Landscape Department is to provide a safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing exterior environment for the students, faculty and staff of Kansas State University.

Duties / Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, weed whipping, mowing, pulling and hoeing weeds, raking leaves, picking up trash and debris, cleaning sidewalks, mulching, and snow removal by operating various tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Perform plumbing duties to operate, maintain, repair, and install irrigation systems on campus grounds. 
  • Perform electrical duties to operate, maintain, repair, and install irrigation systems on campus grounds.
  • Perform minor repairs to tools and equipment in the Grounds Department and provide supervision of student workers and subordinate employees as required.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirement:

  • Requires four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in landscape maintenance, pest control, or chemical application is desirable.
  • Six months of experience in equipment operation
  • Knowledge of the general practices applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of light to medium maintenance equipment
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of lighter and some heavy equipment
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of grounds, tree, and shrub care

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
  • Some positions may require attainment of a commercial driver’s license.
  • Must acquire 3A and 3B Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license within 6 months of employment.
  • Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and advancements in landscape management, pest control, and chemical applications through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and GIS mapping.
