About This Role:

The Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department is currently seeking an Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor will guide students on their academic journey, assisting them in navigating academic plans while monitoring progress. The Advisor will provide personalized guidance to help students make informed decisions regarding their education and ensure they meet graduation requirements. In addition to advising students, this position involves supporting critical academic processes necessary for degree completion and providing various services to students, faculty, staff, and administrators. The Academic Advisor will also manage recruitment efforts for the department, including meeting with prospective students, organizing departmental visits, and representing the department at recruitment events in collaboration with the College of Engineering. Administrative tasks will be balanced with advising responsibilities. The Academic Advisor will be expected to assess and respond to student needs while maintaining confidentiality and providing individualized support. Professional development opportunities are encouraged and supported by the department to ensure continuous growth in the role.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Academic Advising or related field of study
  • Previous advising experience in the higher education
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Demonstrated competence in both in-person and online advising and enrollment systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse people in a variety of situations
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Adherence to strict confidentiality and other ethical standards
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be detail-oriented and prioritize tasks
  • Familiarity with website development and social media marketing 
  • Experience with student information systems such as Oracle-People Soft KSIS and DARS, SSC-Navigate (Student Success Collaborative) or comparable systems.

$46,000 - $52,000
