About This Role

The Staley School of Leadership (SSL), an interdisciplinary School focused on leadership learning, development, and practice at Kansas State University (KSU), invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position (open-rank, assistant/associate/full professor; tenured or tenure-track) of Quantitative Research Leadership and Adaptive Practice Emphasis. This position will also direct Third Floor Research - an applied research partnership between the Kansas Leadership Center and the Staley School of Leadership.

Successful applicants will be prepared to direct a research team and participate in a collaborative environment focused on leadership learning, development, and practice through their work with adaptive leadership, research/creative activity/inquiry, and service efforts. We seek to recruit candidates who have a primary focus on the evaluation of practices of adaptive leadership and quantitative research in leadership, and who can translate or situate their scholarly efforts within civic and organizational leadership learning and development contexts, building from individual to societal levels.

This position is a joint administrative and faculty appointment. This faculty member will teach SSL’s curriculum, including graduate and undergraduate coursework. They will advance research leading the Third Floor Research (TFR) team, a partnership with the Kansas Leadership Center. Directing the work of TFR includes the advancement of research strategies, fulfilling plans outlined in the university’s strategic plan, directing and developing a research team, and overseeing daily business operations. Additionally, administrative oversight includes partnering with SSL faculty on research, monitoring, assessment, and evaluation of student learning outcomes within the Staley School of Leadership and on campus.

The Staley School of Leadership invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track, open-rank professor position with an emphasis on Quantitative Research Leadership and Adaptive Practice Emphasis. The expected teaching workload is equivalent to 12 credits per academic year (4 courses). The appointment will be 100% over the 12-month academic year at a rank and tenure status determined from candidate qualifications and experience, and consistent with campus and University policy.

Specific Responsibilities:

Direct Third Floor Leadership and adaptive leadership research efforts for Kansas State University. Directing TFR includes an active research portfolio – with responsibility to advance a strong and consistent program of research, scholarship, and creative endeavors in adaptive leadership, supervision and direction of graduate assistants, and securing extramural funding as appropriate. (50%)

Teach courses in Leadership Studies (40%)

Service (10%) including participation in service activities at the local, state, national, and/or international levels and serving on departmental, college, and university committees.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from a disciplinary or interdisciplinary program in the social sciences, education, civic and organizational leadership, or related field (completed by December 2025)
  • Demonstrated excellence in engaged teaching at the post-secondary level with teaching experience and scholarly work in quantitative research methods appropriate for rank and tenure-track status
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in designing, teaching, coordinating and/or assessing adaptive leadership practice
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to the leadership scholarship

The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to teaching and learning as evidenced by established successes and use of engaged approaches to teaching, a record of scholarship and practice in adaptive leadership or related areas, a strong commitment to pedagogy, and a commitment to supporting student learning
  • Experience in or openness to working effectively in interdisciplinary teams, including team teaching
