About This Role

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Cheer Coach to assist the Head Coach with creating and implementing the program’s operational practices, running stations, cheer camps and clinics while maintaining a high level of safety of the cheer squad through proper teaching of techniques and safety procedures in compliance with USA Cheer National Safety Standards, maintaining knowledge of gameday cheer trends to positively impact the game presentation, fundraising, and help schedule Willie appearances.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Assist the head coach in coaching, managing, and advising students in the KSA Cheer and Mascot Program by assisting with practices, running stations, conditioning and warm-ups/cool downs ensuring team follows all USA Cheer Safety rules.
  • Assist the head coach in overseeing and managing KSA Cheer and Mascot students at all home football games and select volleyball, basketball, and soccer games.
  • Help with and plan fundraising events for the team.
  • Help schedule and organize appearances for our mascot Willie Wildcat as well as the cheer team when needed.
  • Travel with the team to NCA College Camp, NCA Nationals, select regular season away football games, and/or postseason events.
  • Other duties as assigned

Participating students serve as ambassadors for K-State, engaging with and entertaining fans at community outreach appearances and athletic events to elevate the fan experience and create the best home field/court advantage possible.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Cheer experience
  • Experience as a head or assistant coach at a middle school, high school, or college level. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strength and experience in coaching tumbling and co-ed stunting 

Other Requirements:

  • Able to obtain USA Cheer Safety certification and clearance at time of hire
  • Maintain a first aid and CPR certificate
  • Must be able to travel and work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
