About This Role

The Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications for an Assistant Director, Physical Infrastructure. The purpose of this position is to support construction/renovation projects within the CVM complex while Trotter 2nd Floor is renovated and the VDL building is being designed and constructed. This is a 4-year position commitment only. 

75% - Manage/oversee special infrastructure operations as directed by the Director and represent the Facilities Director in his/her absence when needed/requested. Routine focus will be on construction and renovations. Work with Director and the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance to set budgets, monitor the budgets as projects progress, monitor and coordinate the projects through completion; work with vendors to ensure the most cost-effective route is followed and coordinate with internal and external contractors to determine project timelines. Assist Director in managing progress and provide timely and consistent reporting on all projects to appropriate administrators. On average, the college has between 25 and 40 projects in progress at any given time. These projects include major multi-million dollar renovation projects, research lab projects, and hospital/diagnostic lab service area projects. Keeping projects moving and ensuring the projects stay within budget is critical. Conduct and/or oversee assessments of areas as needed or requested within each department/unit to determine improvements needed or necessary changes to increase efficiencies. These assessments should include plan options and projected budgets. Serve as subject matter expert in renovation strategy and provide professional support to administrators, directors and department heads in all construction/maintenance/custodial needs.  

20% -  Assess current buildings and infrastructure. Working with the Facilities Director determine the most cost-effective recommendation and present the renovation plan and budget to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance and Department Head where appropriate. Work closely with administrators to ensure all facilities meet safety regulations. Manage and prioritize projects related to deferred maintenance. Ensure proper funding is used for deferred maintenance projects and provide consistent and timely reporting on all deferred maintenance projects. Develop reports for maintenance/custodial/construction projects that demonstrate activity and productivity. Identify metrics to be used to evaluate effectiveness in all facility operations. Assist Facilities Director in implementing strategy and metrics for the unit. 

5% - Other duties/projects as assigned by the Facilities Director and/or Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience. Experience may be substituted for the educational requirement where appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years management of infrastructure maintenance and/or renovation/repair projects.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
