About This Role

Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine is accepting applications for the Associate Dean for Research. The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs serves as the chief administrative officer responsible for the research enterprise in the college and provides advice to the Dean on matters related to research and scholarly activities. The Associate Dean manages college research infrastructure, facilitates extramural and intramural funding for college research initiatives, manages research policies and guidelines within the college, and promotes interactions with other colleges and institutions outside of the university.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with and manage the College of Veterinary Medicine’s research interests and partnerships with various university, state, and federal agencies integrating research programs, training initiatives, and areas of common interests between collaborating agencies and college research stakeholders.
  • Facilitate college planning initiatives to include the establishment and assignment of research space in conjunction with department heads.
  • Manage the CVM Intramural Grant Program, research start-up packages, and matching commitments for research proposals.
  • Lead the CVM Grants Administration Office. 
  • Develop and manage college research policies and guidelines.
  • Represent the college on the university’s Associate Deans for Research Council and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges Research Committee, as well as serving as the National Bio and Agro -Defense Facility Terrorism Liaison.
  • Support the independent and collaborative research efforts of college faculty members and trainees to develop and sustain research programs that are regionally relevant and nationally and internationally recognized.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and mentorship of research faculty.
  • Serve on the Dean’s Administrative Council to advise the Dean on research planning and projects for the college.
  • Facilitate extramural funding for college research initiatives, maintain research infrastructure, and promote and represent the college’s research programs. 
  • Oversee activities of core facility laboratory space including, but not limited to, creating a financial structure, negotiation of maintenance contracts and completion of annual reporting to university administration.
  • Support Graduate Program directors to coordinate graduate education and graduate student activities.
  • Advocate for the full spectrum of research efforts, develop short and long-range goals, and develop a communication plan describing the achievements and activities of the college research enterprise.
  • Special Projects as assigned by the Dean of the College.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • Earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in an area relevant to veterinary medicine

Required Experience:

  • Credentials or experience for appointment as a tenured, full professor
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, particularly in administration, personnel management, budgeting, communication, and grantsmanship, as well as the ability to represent the college to scientific, agricultural, veterinary and other professional groups
  • Strong commitment to excellence in graduate education, research, and outreach
  • Experience in assessing priorities and adapting to change with creativity and innovation

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education:

  • DVM

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with graduate education, research, outreach, and international programs in a land grant university
  • Strong professional record of scholarship
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring research faculty
  • Experience with national and international extramural funding opportunities including infrastructure grants
