About This Role:

The Kansas Child Care Training Opportunities (KCCTO) team, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is looking to hire a Career Navigator to join their team. This position will work on a statewide professional development program in the area of childcare and education, focusing on individuals and programs serving birth to 13 years. This position will be responsible for recruiting and retaining individuals in the early childhood field and supporting career advancement for those who wish to or are currently serving young children and their families. This position must understand the professional preparation and development opportunities available to prospective and current members of the early childhood field in order to provide individualized career advising and support.

The Career Navigator will provide virtual and in-person support for career planning and advancement within the early childhood field through a variety of methods, including coaching, consultation, mentoring, and facilitation of peer-to-peer learning opportunities; this includes developing written training plans and Individualized Professional Development Plans (IPDP). This position is responsible for providing expertise, technical assistance, and acting as the point-of-contact for resources and training in an identified specialty area (i.e., higher education, CDA support, director support, accreditation) for staff, early childhood care and education professionals, and other organizations. Additionally, this position may provide training on early childhood career pathways and opportunities, most of which will be conducted online through Canvas.

KCCTO is a sponsored project of Kansas State University and the College of Health and Human Sciences. The mission of KCCTO is to ensure high-quality early education and care through professional development and support for those who work with and on behalf of young children. KCCTO is the current contracted agency by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) for the Infant-Toddler Specialist Network and the Early Childhood Workforce Professional Development Program.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology), the Center on Aging, Physician Assistant program, and a Nursing partnership with Wichita State University. Worksite Options:

This position is eligible for a hybrid and/or remote worksite, but candidates are required to be located within Kansas. Work may be performed on employer premises, designated assignment location and/or performed fully in a remote capacity. An employee who is working remotely must reside within the United States in order to comply with all federal and state laws, filings, or tax requirements.

In-state travel will be required, along with working some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the early childhood care and education workforce.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in human services, early childhood education, or a related field
  • One year of experience developing written materials (i.e., technical assistance plans)
  • Two years of experience coaching other adults/professionals (i.e., mentor coaching, peer-to-peer coaching, supervising)
  • One year of experience managing multiple tasks/projects
  • Specialized experience or course work in a focus area (i.e., career advising, community resources, career development, language/literacy, unserved or underserved populations)
  • Two years of experience working in higher education
  • Documented experience successfully providing teaching/in-service training and technical assistance to adult learners
  • Previous experience in an early childhood setting (i.e., center-based, family childcare, Pre-K, HeadStart, school age)
  • Experience working with electronic and online databases
  • Documented experience with public speaking and/or online instruction (i.e., conference presentations, training workshops, teaching at in-service or preservice level)

$57,000 - $60,000
