About This Role

The purpose of this position is to advance, protect and promote the prominence of Kansas State University by ensuring all communications meet high quality standards that uphold the university’s reputation. The employee is responsible to develop articles and other materials that promote and publicize the activities and outcomes of the university’s strategic plan. The employee in this position will also provide reviews, edits and approvals for materials distributed by all university campuses, ensuring brand standards are upheld. This includes responsibility to edit and approve communications distributed by the university including news releases, publications, video and web text, and internal communications. The employee may also write or review other forms of written communications produced by the university, such as emergency messages to the public and social media posts, for style, clarity and accuracy.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Four years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or other applicable field.
  • Experience writing and editing for a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of AP Style.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • 2 or more years experience writing and editing for a variety of audiences and communication needs such as news, marketing, websites, video and social media.
  • Experience editing and managing the production of magazines, journals or other publications.
  • Knowledge of brand guidelines and ability to apply them while editing.
  • Experience with Adobe products.
