About This Role

The paralegal serves within the Office of General Counsel (OGC) as the Open Records Custodian for the University and is responsible for managing sizable, complex, routine and non-routine public records requests from external parties. This position ensures compliance with public records laws, assists with contract management related to research activities and provides legal and administrative support in various capacities across university departments, including the OGC and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). The paralegal works closely with University personnel, regulatory bodies and external stakeholders to ensure effective document management and legal compliance.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification
  • Three or more years of experience in legal support, public records management or related fields
  • Knowledge of Kansas Open Records Act (KORA), Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA), and other public records laws preferred
  • Strong organizational and document management skills
  • Commitment to handling confidential, privileged, and otherwise sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in research compliance, contracts and/or drafting legal documents
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and manage multiple priorities effectively
