About This Role

Kansas State University and the College of Education is seeking applicants for a 9-month term appointment teaching assistant professor (non-tenure track) in Adult Learning and Leadership housed in the Educational Leadership department to begin August 2026.


The position is designed to support the practitioner focused programs of the Department of Educational leadership. This position is aligned with the adult learning and leadership program and will teach in all programs in the Department of Educational Leadership in the area of qualitative research methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in qualitative research methods, adult learning and leadership academic core areas, developing specialized topic courses, advising/mentoring graduate students, gaining graduate faculty status from the Graduate School, serving on and chairing masters committees, and co-chairing and serving on doctoral committees. The successful candidate will have earned an Ed.D. or a Ph.D. in the field of adult education, higher education administration, or related area. The successful candidate will have earned sufficient graduate level credits in qualitative research methods courses to be eligible to teach graduate level qualitative research methods courses. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for teaching graduate level courses in both face-to-face and distance (asynchronous and synchronous) modalities depending upon the department needs. A successful candidate should have an established record of scholarship and successful experience teaching adult learners.

The Department of Educational Leadership houses a K-12 leadership graduate program, the adult learning and leadership graduate program, and the Community College Leadership doctoral program. The Adult Learning and Leadership program offers graduate certificates in adult learning, social justice, and leadership; MS in Adult Learning and Leadership; and an Ed.D./Ph.D. in Adult Learning and Leadership. The program is offered at a variety of locations throughout the state of Kansas as well as at a distance.

Worksite Description

This position is hybrid eligible. The employee must be available to be on the Manhattan campus frequently during the work week for routine and scheduled meetings. Travel to and from the Manhattan campus would be at the employee’s expense.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must hold a doctorate in adult education, higher education administration, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university;
• Must demonstrate ability to teach and develop graduate qualitative research methods courses;
• Knowledge of and experience in successful teaching of adult learners;
• Successful teaching at the graduate level;
• Knowledge of and strong interest in designing, implementing, and instructing online courses;
• Ability and commitment to work collaboratively in group settings;
• Evidence of scholarly activity which includes peer-reviewed publications and presentations focused on an area of expertise including teaching and learning of adult learners, higher education administration, qualitative research methods or related area in order to obtain Graduate Faculty status with the Graduate School (authored five peer reviewed publications in the past five years);
• Commitment to the doctoral program by advising doctoral students, serving on and co-chairing dissertations, and teaching doctoral courses in adult learning and leadership, research methods, and qualitative research methods; and
• Developing courses in areas of specialization, such as teaching and learning, community college leadership, organizational development, or a related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing programs for adult learners;
• Experience teaching online graduate courses;
• Developed research agenda and scholarship in area of adult learning and leadership, qualitative research methods or closely related field;
• Experience working with practitioners or practitioner experience in the area of adult education or higher education leadership.
