General Description of Position: The School of Family Studies and Human Services is seeking a Child Development Teaching Assistant who will be responsible for classroom management and assessment, as well as assisting the supervising instructor is classroom teaching.
Information about the Department: The School of Family Studies and Human Services consists of six units each with lead coordinators: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Life-Span Human Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Personal Financial Planning as well as Specialists in K-State Research and Extension. Additional certificate programs are offered in Conflict Resolution, Youth Development, and Personal Financial Planning, a minor in Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies, as well as programs offered through Great Plains-Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA) including Youth Development, Family and Community Services, Personal Financial Planning, and Financial Therapy. Faculty are extensively involved in distance education at the bachelor, master’s, and doctoral levels and certificate programs. The School operates an early childhood laboratory school, a speech and hearing clinic, a marriage and family therapy clinic, and a personal financial planning and financial therapy clinic. The School's facilities span four buildings and two campuses.

There are currently 62 faculty members in the School, nearly 800 undergraduates and 271 graduate students. The work of the School is conducted by over 190 faculty, staff, and student assistants.  The School has established four priority areas for research and programming: 1) Health and Security of Military Families; 2) Personal and Family Risk Behaviors; 3) Disorders of Communication and Swallowing; 4) Families, Illness, and Health.

Job Description: Assists supervising instructor with classroom teaching and management; assumes responsibility for classroom when supervising instructor has responsibilities outside of the classroom; serves as a teaching model for assistant teachers and laboratory students; participates in the evaluation of laboratory students; implements the program philosophy and goals; shares responsibility for health, safety, and welfare of the children; maintains relationships with parents of children that allow for informal exchange of information. Attends staff meetings and parent meetings; gains familiarity with children’s files; occasionally participates in parent conferences and home visits; participates in observation, developmental screening and assessment of children; participates in in-service training activities; informs supervising instructor of equipment or materials in need of repair or replacement; shares information with other staff members about children’s daily needs or parental concerns; assumes responsibility for curriculum planning; assumes specific responsibilities as assigned by supervising instructor, such as laundering, preparing and repairing materials, preparing and straightening the classroom, selecting library books, purchasing materials for the center, or closing center at the end of the day.
Required Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma

- One year teaching experience in a licensed center or preschool, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool. Or seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent in licensed center or preschool. Or one year of supervised practicum in licensed center or preschool.

Preferred Qualifications: Licensure in Early Childhood Unified and 6 months experience working with toddlers in a group setting
