Job no: 507313
Work type: Academic / Faculty - 12 month
Location: Manhattan, Kansas

Pay Grade: 001

About This Role:

The Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections at Kansas State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant University Archivist.  The Assistant University Archivist serves as an advisor to Libraries and university administration, departments, and offices in the development of K-State’s university archives program.  This position requires demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice that includes records administration.  Reporting to the Department Head/University Archivist, the assistant archivist provides expertise in the following: accepted standards and best practices of archival administration; compliance with university policies and federal and state law regarding access, retention, and disposition of records with enduring value; and identification of records of historical importance.  The position will collaborate with the University Records Manager in performing these duties and will work with department head to assess staffing, facility, technology, and financial resource needs, and to implement plans to meet those needs.  The individual selected for this position will also supervise one professional staff and will oversee Morse Department reference services.

Following a May 22, 2018 fire in Hale Library, the university’s main library, the administration, faculty and staff, who had been looking forward to the creation of a first-floor learning commons, have instead reimagined the entire library from the ground up.  Central to the future of Hale Library is a strong archival presence.  As Hale reconstruction occurs, the Assistant University Archivist will have the opportunity to participate in the re-integration of archival collections currently stored off-campus.

This is a full-time tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities.  The candidate must have a commitment to scholarly/creative activities and professional service necessary for pursuing tenure at Kansas State University Libraries.  To be successful in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues in an environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential.  The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
