About This Role

The 4-H Engineering and Technology Specialist will provide leadership to the development of and implementation of programming in projects that fall under the engineering and technology scope of practice. This includes, but is not limited to the following projects; Ag Mechanics Welding, Building Block Construction, Astronomy, Computer Science, Electric and Renewable Energy, Robotics, Aerospace/Rocketry, Small Engines, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems and Woodworking.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct needs assessments at the local and state levels to drive programming priorities and critical needs.
  • Develop county/district, regional, and state-level resources for program implementation in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Provide leadership and support to the Engineering & Technology 4-H Project Partnership Team.
  • Promote involvement of volunteers and provide leadership in volunteer training and management.
  • Review and seek opportunities for external support through grants, contacts and special projects to determine appropriateness for the Kansas 4-H Program.

Worksite Option

This position is to be performed onsite in Manhattan, KS with regular travel involved.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with course work in a discipline or program related to education, curriculum development, science, agriculture, family and consumer sciences or closely related field.
  • At least 3 years experience in teaching (formal or informal) and positively interacting with and managing youth and adults.
  • Demonstrated personal/interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills, to teach and interact effectively with a variety of audiences including youth, Extension staff, faculty and stakeholders.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively use established and emerging technologies as it relates to science education and youth development programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of professional experience in designing, conducting and evaluating educational programs for youth and adults.
  • Basic understanding of the Cooperative Extension System and the land-grant university.
  • Exhibit a high personal standard of excellence, be an effective team player while being a self-directed learner.
  • Familiarity working in or with Extension programming.
  • Demonstrated success in writing and securing grants with the ability to fulfill grant deliverables.
  • Experience using organizational and logistical skills, with attention to detail, to lead, organize and evaluate youth-focused and or adult educational programs related to science engineering, technology, and mathematics topics.
  • Record of successful partnerships at community, state and/or national levels.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to meet Extension needs.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

Salary begins at $70,000 and commensurate with experience, education and training.
